Helping to Fight Local Hunger

"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father

feeds them. Are you not much more valuable

than they?" -Matthew 6:26

Social Service hours are on Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Those requesting assistance may visit our Emergency Food Center once every two months and receive non-perishable food items sufficient for their family for three days. Proper identification is required. Rev. June Begany interviews each visitor and can provide them with needed information on other community resources.

Old Stone's food pantry has seen an increase in the need for emergency food this year. We are now seeing the effects of the economy on people with marginal incomes. If you can help with donations of canned goods or cash to help us buy what is needed, the Mission Committee would be most grateful.

Community Meals

Old Stone members help serve community meals for those in need. On the first Friday of each month, a meal is served at Bethany Presbyterian Church, on the corner of West 65th Street and Clinton, just South of Detroit.

4th Saturday Meal Program

Old Stone partners with St. Paschal Baylon Church to serve a hot meal on the fourth Saturday of each month. The meal is held in Old Stone's Memorial Hall. The doors open at 11:30 a.m. Serving begins at 12:00 noon and is completed by 1:30 p.m.

What Can You Do to Help?

Contribute to our Emergency Food Pantry

Needed non-perishable items include canned goods, cereals, powdered milk, one-dish meals, pasta, tuna, peanut butter and soap or detergent. You may leave your canned goods in the shopping cart in the lounge. Help is also needed to pack food bags. See Rev. Begany for food packing dates.

Cash or checks, with social service noted in the memo, may be given to Rev. June Begany or sent to the attention of Old Stone's Financial Secretary Sara Gresh.

Volunteer to serve at one of the community meals. Contact Rev. June Begany to volunteer for the community meals.

Volunteers are needed at Bethany on the first Friday of each month at 1:30 p.m. to prepare the salad and main dish. Additional help is needed at 5:30 p.m. to serve the meal and clean up.

On the fourth Saturday of each month, help is needed here at Old Stone Church from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to welcome and direct guests, serve food, and help with clean-up.
