Helping to Fight Local Hunger

"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father

feeds them. Are you not much more valuable

than they?" -Matthew 6:26

Social Service hours are on Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Those requesting assistance may visit our Emergency Food Center once every two months and receive non-perishable food items sufficient for their family for three days. Proper identification is required. Rev. June Begany interviews each visitor and can provide them with needed information on other community resources.

What Can You Do to Help?

Contribute to our Emergency Food Pantry

Old Stone's food pantry has seen an increase in the need for emergency food this year. We are now seeing the effects of the economy on people with marginal incomes. Needed non-perishable items include canned goods, cereals, powdered milk, one-dish meals, pasta, tuna, peanut butter and soap or detergent. Canned goods can be left in the shopping cart outside the Chapel. Help is also needed to pack food bags. See Rev. Begany or the church calendar for food packing dates.

This month we are collecting canned peas (16 oz.) for the pantry.

Financial donations are also appreciated. Cash or checks, with "social service" noted in the memo, can be given to Rev. June Begany or sent to the attention of Old Stone's Financial Secretary Sara Gresh.

Community Meals

Old Stone members help serve community meals for those in need. On the first Friday of each month, a meal is served at Bethany Presbyterian Church, on the corner of West 65th Street and Clinton, just South of Detroit. Volunteers are needed at Bethany at 5:30 p.m. to serve the meal and clean up. Contact Rev. June Begany to volunteer.
