UPCaM
stands for United Protestant Campus Ministries. Their ministers
and staff provide
ministry to Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland State
University, Cuyahoga Community College, Cleveland Institute of Art,
Cleveland Institute of Music, and the Ohio College for Podiatric
Medicine (OCPM).
UPCaM
seeks to develop Christian faith, Christian leadership and Christian
community on our college campuses by providing opportunities for
community service, study, worship, fellowship and pastoral care.
Recognizing
the needs of students during these years of transformation and
personal growth, UPCaM provides an open and respectful forum in which
to explore questions about religion, individual beliefs and personal
values and to nurture positive identity and self-worth. A number of activities, including meals, Bible
studies and spring break weeks with Habitat for Humanity, are some of
the ways they reach out and support students in their faith.
UPCaM
works to produce future Christian leaders who will strive to create
caring and inclusive communities and to use their faith and love to
deal effectively with personal, social and world issues.
Through a
grant from Presbyterian Women, a new staff person was added for a
special outreach for women. Students at college are a vulnerable group
in terms of staying with and growing in faith and being a part of a
church community.
Old Stone has supported
UPCaM as a
way to reach out to this group. As our young people leave for college
we know that we want a chaplain or group to reach out to them in the
same way that we reach out to students in the Cleveland area.
